Mumbai's Iconic Bademiya Restaurant Sealed After Rats & Cockroaches Found In Kitchen
Popular South Mumbai eatery Bademiya was shut down on Wednesday by the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) officials after cockroaches and rats were found in the kitchen during raids.??The FDA also said that it did not have its FSSAI license.
Opened 77 years ago in 1946, Bademiya was started?as a makeshift seekh kabab counter. It?is now popular for its iconic kebabs and rolls. Apart from its hugely popular rolls and kebabs, Bademiya serves Mughlai, North Indian and Jain cuisines as well.
Cockroaches and rats found in the eatery's kitchen?
After receiving several hygiene-related complaints, the FDA raided the eatery.?The kebab joint has two branches, one in South Mumbai and the other in Bandra.
According to sources, the officials found cockroaches and rats in the eatery's kitchen during the raids.??
When the FDA officials looked into the papers of the eatery, they found that it did not have a licence under the Food Safety & Standards Authority of India.?
The restaurant owner said they have all the licences except FSSAI, which is underway. The owner also mentioned that they are ready to comply with the authorities fully.?
Bademiya is one of the many restaurants across Mumbai currently being inspected.?
"There is an ongoing raid and inspection (of FDA) across restaurants in Mumbai. Bademiya is one of the hotels that have been raided. This afternoon, the vigilance team and our local officer arrived here (Bademiya) and found that a cloud kitchen served meals for two of its adjoining branches. There was no license granted to the eatery, and hygiene issues have also surfaced," the FDA official was quoted as saying by India Today.?
Officials said that Bademiya's FSSAI license has not been renewed for several years.?

FSSAI is the supreme authority which is responsible for regulating and supervising food safety.?
FSSAI has made it mandatory for all hotels to obtain FSSAI Food safety registration or license in order to start their venture.?
The FSSAI license is issued under FSS (Licensing & Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011. It is a distinctive 14-digit registration or license number given to manufacturers, producers and traders dealing with Fast Food Joints business and restaurants that should compulsorily be written on the food packages.??
